MCMS Statement on Ivermectin & COVID-19

The Montgomery County Medical Society (MCMS) supports the joint statement by the American Medical Association (AMA), American Pharmacists Association, and American Society of Health-System Pharmacists strongly opposing the ordering, prescribing, or dispensing of Ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19 outside of a clinical trial. This joint statement has been supported by the OSMA as well.

On September 7th, the Butler County Court of Common Pleas declined the request for a preliminary injunction that would have required a local hospital to continue the administration of Ivermectin to a patient in the ICU. The MCMS joins the OSMA in support of this correction to the previous order which compelled the hospital to administer the medication as prescribed by an outside physician who did not have privileges at the hospital. Furthermore, we stand with the OSMA in our belief that courts should never be asked to override orders or refusals to issue orders by physicians with staff privileges at any hospital.
