CDC issues New Clinical Practice Guidelines for Prescribing Opioids for Pain
Provided by MCMS Administration
All healthcare providers should be aware of the new CDC guidelines which update the 2016 guidelines which focused on opioid use for pain management. The 2022 updates remove the 2016 thresholds for dose and quantity of opioid prescriptions. While it steers away from inflexible standards, the report includes useful recommendations and supporting rationale for treating acute, subacute, and chronic pain with nonpharmacologic therapies, non-opioid medications, and opioid analgesics if appropriate.
